This section represents the entry point to maps, statistics and online databases currently accessable from the UN Atlas of the Ocean and to collections of maps related to oceans. The user can use the left-side frame to look into specific domain of interest. Another entry point to maps is through the GEOGRAPHY worldview where maps have been catalogued according to their geographic coverage.
Collection of maps from the 3 volumes Atlas of the Oceans, published by the Russian Head Department of Navigation and Oceanography (HDNO), and covering various aspects of the oceans are now available. By clicking the link below, users can look at a preview of what is available. Registered users can access the full size images of each map from the sub-topic Ocean Maps from Russian Atlas available on the left side frame.

Title
NOAA DOGS (Digital Optimization of Grid Systems)
( WEBSITE )
Description
The computer program DOGS (Digital Optimization of Grid Systems) can analyze a large set of bathymetric data and create from it a smaller set of optimized points describing the same geographic region. This smaller data set then can be used on its own as a representation of the area's bathymetry, or as input into other computer programs or Geographical Information Systems. NOAA OR&R oceanographers use DOGS data sets as input to hydrodynamic models that require information about the shape of the sea floor. The output from these models is then used as input into other models that predict the trajectory of pollutants, such as crude oil and refined products, spilled into the ocean.
