TitleOceanExpert: the Global Directory of Marine (and Freshwater) Professionals - GLODIR  ( PROJECT )
Project SummaryThe OceanExpert system, formerly known as Global Directory of Marine (and Freshwater) Professionals, is a database containing information on individuals active on issues related to the marine (and freshwater) environment . It is intended to be a tool for scientists, policy makers and anyone who needs to contact a marine (or freshwater) professional. The GLODIR is a product developed under the auspices of the IODE's Group of Experts on Marine Information Management (GE-MIM). The GLODIR project was started (as the Global Directory of Marine Scientists) in 1994 when IOC published the Standard Directory Record Structure for Organizations, Individuals and their Research Interests in its IOC Manuals and Guides No. 30. This publication documents a recommended structure for 'use in the preparation of databases of organizations, individuals and their research interests'.
