Non-point sources of pollution are those that cannot be traced back to a particular site. They include agriculture and forestry as well as industry. The pollution can be of many sorts, even sea salts, a problem for the Red Sea and Gulf region. Heat discharges from power plants, too, can disrupt the natural balance. More prominently, however, radionuclides and heavy metals have been a concern in the North Sea.
