One indicator of the environmental stress imposed by tourism is the intensity of tourist activity on each island. In [the Table above], measures of the intensity of tourism activity are calculated both for the number of (overnight) tourists per hectare, and for the number of tourists per local inhabitant. These two measures demonstrate slightly different environmental effects.
