The International Ecotourism Society identifies key issues in the field of ecotourism
that require international attention each year. Because the field of ecotourism
lacks international standards and tourism development is often uncontrolled,
there is a wide array of issues that need attention. TIE undertakes an initiative:
1) if raising international awareness is the appropriate route to achieving
change;
2) if bringing international expertise to bear on the issue will produce important
new standards, approaches, or techniques; and
3) if the impetus for change is coming from locally-run organizations.
