Confirmation that growth rings which can be seen on bony parts of fish (such asoliths, statoliths, scales, vertebrae or fin spines), on shells of shellfish or in ear plugs of aquatic mammals coincide with the assumed time period (e.g. year, day) and that their number can be taken as indicating age.
